Today was Florence. Unfortunately there were 5! Ships in port so taxis etc were hard to come by. We got a little late start and it left us with only a somewhat expensive option for travel to Florence. Well, we took it.as we had no choice. We did what we needed to get there. It is about an hours ride by car. We were dropped off at the downtown square in front of the Duomo, a cathedral built in 1296. We walked around and looked at everything we could in the 5 hours we had and did manage to get into the Acadamia and see the real David by Michaelanglo. Dolly got admonished three times for taking pictures when she wasn’t allowed to. The most awesome marble carving I have ever seen. We could have spent a week in Florence to see everything. Alas, we had to leave back to the ship.

A view of the Duomo with the Bapistry in the left foreground and the front of the cathedral and the dome in the rear.

A shot east along the Arno with a general view of Florence.

A view of the Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge remaining in Florence. It is now the gold jewelry market. Very expensive.

A shot of the replica of David in the square. No photos allowed in the museum. This was the must see in Florence and we got it done.

This is where we were dropped off by the taxi. A view of the Duomo in the distance

Rome tomorrow!!!!

  1. Beautiful pictures. Oh, my that David is something to see! I didn't try to take a pic cause they threatened to steal your camera from you if you did. Brings back memories. To bad you did not try the train ride and that is very reasonable at 7.00 both ways. Love and miss you all........Gloria
